Scorpions vice-captain, Omar Colley has officially extended his contract with Italian top flight side Sampdoria until June 2025. Coley was previously close to a Premier League move.

The 28-year-old Gambian international was repeatedly linked with a switch to England over the summer and again in January.

Leeds United and Sheffield United were reportedly interested in the former Wallidan and Real de Banjul centre-back.

The Italian Liguria-based side, under the guidance of Claudio Ranieri decided to cool all rumours linking Colley with a summer transfer by extending his contract to June 2025.

Lamin-born player Omar Colley signed for Sampdoria for €8m after leaving Belgian side Genk in 2018.

Colley has 67 appearances and one goal in the Blucerchiati jersey.

Meanwhile, fans of Scottish giant Celtic have reacted to the news of Omar Colley extending his contract with Sampdoria.

Celtic were heavily linked with a move for Sampdoria defender Omar Colley over the summer.

The Hoops reportedly had an offer in the region of £10m rejected for The Gambia international during the previous transfer window.

Reports prior to the January transfer window claimed that the Serie A side was willing to sell the 28-year-old for less than their previous valuation after falling out of favour.

However, a run of nine starts in the club’s last 10 league games seemingly did the trick in earning him a new contract.

Neil Lennon is reportedly keen on bringing in a centre-back of his own this month, but it appears as if that would not be Colley following the latest update.
