Africa-Press – Ghana. A coalition of New Patriotic Party (NPP) grassroots members across the Volta Region, has openly declared support for Dr. Bryan Acheampong as the preferred candidate to lead the party into the 2028 general elections.
Mr Acheampong was a former Minister of Food and Agriculture.
The group, comprising Polling Station Executives, Electoral Area Coordinators, and Constituency Executives, announced their endorsement at a press conference held in Ho.
Madam Thelma Christabel Adzimah, Women’s Organizer for the Ho Central Constituency, spokesperson for the group, said they came together in unity and with a clear sense of purpose to affirm their “firm and unwavering support” for Dr. Acheampong.
She described Dr. Acheampong “as a leader who listens, respects the party base, and remains committed to building strong party structures—even during challenging times.
“His track record speaks for itself,” she said, listing achievements such as community empowerment through borehole projects, provision of farm inputs, support for education, and initiatives in healthcare, hospitality, and economic empowerment.
The group highlighted Dr. Acheampong’s consistent engagement with the grassroots, emphasizing his appreciation for the pivotal role played by polling station executives, coordinators, and constituency leaders in the party’s success.
They urged all other presidential hopefuls and party leadership to avoid taking the base for granted and warned against reliance on endorsements from former government appointees.
“The true power of the party lies in its grassroots – the foot soldiers, polling station executives, and coordinators who drive the party’s machinery at the community level,” they said.
The group called on the national leadership of the NPP to ensure that the party’s future internal elections were free, fair, and transparent, truly reflecting the will of its members.
They also appealed for unity and calm within the party, stressing that only a candidate like Dr. Acheampong, who they described as a unifier, had the capacity to ease existing tensions and lead the party to victory.
“The 2023 presidential primaries generated significant tension, particularly between the two leading contenders and their followers. Unfortunately, these divisions persist. We believe Bryan Acheampong is the one person who can restore unity and focus,” they added.
They therefore, rallied the rank and file of the party to support Dr. Acheampong’s vision and leadership in order to reclaim power from President John Mahama and the National Democratic Congress.
“We, the grassroots of the NPP, declare: Dr. Bryan Acheampong is our choice, our hope, and our trusted leader. Let no one ignore the grassroots again — the future of the party depends on us,” they affirmed.
