Africa-Press – Ghana. An interdenominational Christian service to mark the first National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving has been held at the forecourt of the State House, Accra.

“Transformation of this land depends on us” — Cardinal Peter Kodwo Appiah Turkson said at the prayer service.

“Let us speak words heal and not words that harm” — President John Dramani Mahama

“The peace we enjoy is not simply the product of sound policies or political will. It is the results of prayer. It is the fruit of faithful believers” — President Mahama

“Religious tolerance is a precious gift we must protect” — President Mahama

“The virtues of courage, of honesty, of discipline, of sacrifice and compassion are what really measure the greatness of any nation” — President John Mahama

In February 2025, President John Dramani Mahama proposed that a National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving should be held on July 1, which is also Ghana’s Republic Day, and marks Senior Citizens Day.
