Africa-Press – Ghana. The Ghana Chamber of Mines has expressed deep sorrow over the deaths of eight distinguished Ghanaians, including two sitting ministers, following a tragic helicopter crash earlier this week.
The crash claimed the lives of Dr. Edward Kofi Omane-Boamah, Minister for Defence; Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation; Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna, former Minister for Agriculture and Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chair of the NDC; Mr. Samuel Aboagye, former parliamentary candidate; Squadron Leader Peter Anala; Flying
Officer Twum Ampadu; and Sergeant Ernest Addo.
In a statement, the Chamber extended its condolences to the bereaved families, the Government of Ghana, and the people of the nation.
It described the tragedy as a significant national loss, noting that each of the victims had made invaluable contributions to the country’s development.
The Chamber highlighted its close working relationship with the late Ministers for Defence and Environment, particularly in tackling the challenges of illegal mining.
Their collaborative efforts were central to safeguarding mining concessions, protecting water bodies, and ensuring the security of mining operations across the country.
According to the Chamber, the leadership and commitment demonstrated by the two ministers were foundational to the multi-stakeholder approach Ghana has adopted in promoting responsible mining.
Their absence, it said, will be deeply felt not only by the institutions they served but by all who are committed to sustainable resource management.
As the nation mourns, the Ghana Chamber of Mines pledged to honour their legacy by continuing the fight against illegal and irresponsible mining.
The Chamber reaffirmed its commitment to working with government and stakeholders to protect the environment and promote security within mining communities.
The statement expressed hope that their sacrifices would inspire greater national resolve to address the root causes of illegal mining.
