Africa-Press – Ghana. Accra will next week host the Africa Regional Committee Meeting of the International Solar Alliance (ISA), aimed at driving solar investments, strengthening capacity, and advancing innovation to close the continent’s energy gap.
The meeting is expected to bring together governments, financiers, innovators, and development partners to mobilise resources for Africa’s solar future.
Mr. Ashish Khanna, Director General of ISA, said Africa remained central to the global solar agenda but continued to attract less than two per cent of clean energy investments, despite its vast potential.
“Over 600 million people in Africa remain without access to electricity. This must change. In Accra, we are moving from ambition to action—partnering on platforms like Mission 300 to unlock private sector-led investments, strengthen institutions, and build local capacity,” he said.
The meeting will highlight key ISA initiatives, including the Africa Solar Facility with a capitalisation of $200 million and the Multi-Donor Trust Fund worth $25 million to de-risk solar investments.
It will also explore solar-powered agriculture solutions such as irrigation and cold storage to enhance food security, while advancing digital and AI-driven energy management systems to expand reliable energy access.
Mr. Khanna added: “Our goal is not just to share solutions, but to shape them together with African nations—ensuring no one is left behind in the solar revolution.”
The ISA, launched in 2015 by India and France, has 124 member and signatory countries and works to unlock investments, reduce the cost of solar technology, and expand its use in agriculture, health, transport, and power generation.
