CITG Inaugurates New Executive Committee with First Female President

Africa-Press – Ghana. The Chartered Institute of Taxation, Ghana (CITG) has inaugurated its newly elected executive committee, with Mrs Ernestina Christina Appiah sworn-in as the Institute’s first female President.

The ceremony, held in Accra, marked a historic milestone for the institute as Mrs Appiah pledged to lead with integrity, inclusivity, and a renewed focus on strengthening the visibility and credibility of taxation as a profession in Ghana and beyond.

In her acceptance speech, Mrs Appiah expressed gratitude to the CITG council, her family, and colleagues for their support.

She described her election as a collective victory, not just for women in leadership, but for all professionals committed to building trust in Ghana’s tax system.

“This moment is not mine alone; it belongs to all of us. The institute will no longer be confined to offices and lecture halls. We will ensure that every trader, farmer, and business owner understands the importance of taxation and sees CITG as a trusted partner,” she said.

Outlining her vision, Mrs Appiah stressed the need to modernize the Institute’s operations, deepen collaboration with key institutions such as the Ghana Revenue Authority, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Education, and expand training to equip the next generation of tax professionals.

She also emphasized creating pathways for women and young professionals, ensuring that leadership within the institute reflected the diversity and strength of its membership.

“Our task is to position the CITG as a household name and a trusted advisor to the state. We must embrace reforms that promote transparency, inclusivity, and forward-looking professional learning,” she added.

Mrs Appiah announced plans to build strategic partnerships with continental and global tax networks, including the African Tax Administration Forum, to establish CITG as a hub of excellence in Africa’s tax profession.

The newly elected executives were Mr Fred Awutey, as Vice President, Mr Francis Timore Boi as Chairperson, Education & Training Committee, Mr Rester Togormey as Chairperson, Exams Committee.

Speaking at the event, the outgoing President, Mr George Ohene Kwatia, reflected on his tenure and urged the new leadership to remain committed to service rather than titles.

“This institute has never been about positions. It has always been about service and sacrifice. We must continue advancing the profession, influencing national policy, and cementing CITG’s role as a global thought leader,” he said.

The ceremony, which brought together policymakers, industry leaders, and members of the taxation profession, highlighted the institute’s role in promoting accountability, revenue mobilization, and economic development.
