Africa-Press – Ghana. The University of Ghana Tennis Court will host the maiden Corporate Tennis Championship on Saturday, October 25, 2025.

Four corporate institutions, namely GOIL PLC, Stanbic Bank, Ghana Civil Aviation Authority and Volta River Authority, would compete for honours in the men’s doubles and singles events.

The draw for Saturday’s championship was held on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, where GOIL PLC would face Stanbic Bank while Volta River Authority battles Ghana Civil Aviation Authority for a spot in the finals.

Speaking at the launch in Accra, Mr Augustine Amissare, the Senior Assistant Registrar at the University of Ghana Sports and Wellness Directorate, said they were excited to be part of the event, which aims to foster partnerships among participating institutions.

“On Saturday, we are expecting that it is going to be as good as the football that we had. We are starting with a small number, only four teams, but we are confident that next year, by this time, we’ll be talking about a huge number of teams.

“So, we want to make this occasion a memorable one and to a large extent ensure fairness so that more corporate bodies would like to come the next year,” he said.

Mr Isaac Aboagye-Duah, President of the Ghana Tennis Federation (GTF), described the upcoming championship event as an exciting time for Ghana tennis, particularly with corporate Ghana on board to promote tennis.

He stated that corporate entities’ interest in tennis demonstrates their willingness to help professionals in the sport.

“The championships is expected to bring many exciting moments ahead. There is going to be a lot of networking for the companies, and we hope companies will use the right people to compete at the event.

“So, I want use the opportunity to thank the media, sponsors and invite the tennis community to come here on Saturday to network and make tennis grow bigger and better, to become the number two sport again in Ghana,” the GTA President said.

Mr. Yaw Sakyi, Chief Executive Officer of Rite Sports Services, stated that following the success of past corporate games in football and athletics, the next step was to organise a tennis championship.

He stated it was the reason they decided to partner with the GTA and promised that the championship would be exciting for all participating teams and the general public.

Mr Sakyi stressed the need of fairness in the future games and expressed gratitude to the different firms that are supporting them.
