Africa-Press – Ghana. The Black Queens of Ghana delivered an impressive performance to secure a decisive 3-0 victory over Egypt in the first leg of their 2026 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifier, played on Thursday in Ismailia.
Ghana took a deserved lead just before halftime when forward Doris Boaduwaa opened the scoring in the 42nd minute following a well-worked team move.
It was a dominant performance from the Black Queens, who had numerous opportunities to double their lead, but the heroics of the Egyptian goalkeeper ensured the game was only 1-0 to Ghana.
In the 52nd minute, Egypt’s Habiba Essam Mohammed’s red card for a nasty tackle on Ghana’s Grace Asantewaa significantly changed the momentum of the match.
Ghana capitalised on their advantage late in the game when substitute Mary Amponsah doubled the lead in the 85th minute, scoring with a composed finish shortly after coming off the bench.
Midfielder Grace Asantewaa sealed the emphatic win with a stoppage-time strike, bringing the final score to 3-0.
The Black Queens displayed tactical discipline, creativity, and resilience throughout the match, successfully dominating possession and limiting Egypt’s chances.
The results give the Black Queens a huge advantage heading into the return leg scheduled for Accra on Tuesday, October 28, 2025.
