Africa-Press – Ghana. On Remembrance Day, President John Dramani Mahama, Commander-In-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, joined the security agencies and ex-service men to pay tribute to Ghana’s fallen heroes at the Christiansborg War Cemetery at Osu, Accra.
This was in their honour of their sacrifice for the nation.
The President laid a wreath in honour of the nation’s fallen heroes on behalf of the Government and People of Ghana.
Other wreaths were laid by Dr Christian Rogg, the British High Commissioner to Ghana for the Commonwealth and Allied Countries; the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, the Chief of Defence Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces, the Chairman of the Veterans Association of Ghana, and the Osu Alata Mantse.
Ghana commemorates Remembrance Day annually on November 11 to honour fallen soldiers and other security personnel who died in World War I, World War II, and other conflicts.
At the event, a two-minute silence was observed in honour of the departed heroes.
In attendance was Alhaji Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka, the Minister for the Interior; Mr Ernest Brogya Gyamfi, the Deputy Defence Minister; Lieutenant General William Agyapong, the Chief of Defence of the Ghana Armed Forces; and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno.
Also in attendance were ex-servicemen, security agencies, members of the diplomatic corps, and traditional rulers.
