Africa-Press – Ghana. The Christian Council of Ghana has inaugurated its first-ever Ecumenical Convention with a call on Christians to deepen unity for a collective and greater impact on national life.
The maiden Convention opened with emphasis on strengthening Christian unity from the grassroots to the national level.
Held on the theme, “Uniting the Body of Christ for Greater Impact,” the gathering brought together leaders from various denominations and representatives of Local Councils of Churches from across the nation.
The convention is expected to feature deliberations, prayers, and experience-sharing sessions aimed at renewing commitment to collaborative Christian witness and social action for the transformation of Ghana.
In his welcome address, Reverend Dr. Cyril Fayose, General Secretary of the Christian Council, described the event as a significant milestone in the life of the Church in Ghana, aimed at moving ecumenism beyond words into “lived fellowship, shared mission, and collective witness.”
He stressed that the Local Council of Churches (LCC) initiative was a bold step to make unity visible at the community level.
“If national unity is to be meaningful, then local unity must be visible. If the Church is to have a louder voice, then that voice must rise from the grassroots,” he stated.
Mr. Fred Oware, a prominent political figure and campaign manager for former Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who stood in for the former Vice-President, conveyed warm wishes and support for the convention’s objective of unifying Christian denominations.
He said the various Christian denominations, though distinct, are all part of one unified body, much like the different parts of a human body.
Mr. Oware added that although the former Vice-President was a Muslim, “he has always expressed a belief in a common humanity.
He makes no distinction whatsoever about the religious sects. And he treats all the same,” he said.
He praised the convention as “a good decision to bring all Christian denominations under one, not one institution, but one vocation.”
