Africa-Press – Ghana. Mr Ben Abdullah Alhassan, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Asokore-Mampong, has toured some selected farms in the municipality to commend and interact with the farmers ahead of this year’s farmers celebrations.
The tour was to study the challenges facing the farmers and recognise their invaluable contributions to food security in the municipality and the nation.
National Farmers’ Day is celebrated on the first Friday of December every year, to appreciate and reward hard working farmers for their contribution to national development and food security in the country.
Mr Alhassan told the Ghana News Agency after the visit, that, it was important to engage in such interactions to fully understand the difficulties, challenges facing the famers and provide the needed support that would help increase productivity and success of their businesses.
He expressed his satisfaction with the level of operations he witnessed during the tour and commended the farmers for their hard work and dedication, urging them to maintain their high standards and continue their good practices.
Mr Alhassan was, however, worried about some of the challenges facing the farmers, especially poor road networks leading to the farms transporting the produce to the marketing centres.
He assured the farmers that the Assembly would conduct consultations to explore ways to improve road conditions, thereby facilitating better access to markets and reducing the risk of food products being left to rot after harvesting.
The farmers expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the MCE for taking the time to visit their farms, noting that this was the first time they had experienced such an engagement from a Municipal Chief Executive.
They appreciated the attention given to their concerns and urged Mr. Alhassan to prioritize the improvement of the poor roads leading to their farms.
Such enhancements would ease transportation challenges and ensure that their harvests reach the market in good condition, ultimately benefiting farmers and consumers.
Accompanying the MCE on the tour were several key officials, including the Municipal Coordinating Director, the Municipal Agric Director, the Municipal NADMO Director, and other officers from the Assembly.
