Africa-Press – Ghana. Mensah, Deputy Minister of Energy and Green Transition, has commended the successful execution of the 9th Ghana Energy Awards and welcomed the roadmap for its 10th Anniversary Edition.
“The Ministry acknowledges the strategic role the Ghana Energy Awards continues to play in highlighting performance and encouraging healthy competition within the sector,” he said when a high-level delegation of the Awards Secretariat paid a courtesy call at the Ministry in Accra.
The visit kicked off a series of activities officially announcing and celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the Awards, which have recognised excellence and innovation across Ghana’s energy value chain since 2017.
The delegation was led by Ing. Henry Teinor, Chief Executive Officer of the Awards Secretariat, and Kwame Jantuah, Chairman of the Awarding Panel.
It included Dr. Lawrence Tetteh, Dr. Jemima Nunoo, Dr. Kwame Ampofo, Ghana’s Ambassador to Hungary, and Prof. Felix Asante, Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, responsible for Research, Innovation and Development.
Mr Gyan-Mensah described the 9th Edition as well executed and said, “we expect an even more impactful 10th Anniversary celebration.”
He reaffirmed the Ministry’s openness to partnerships, saying: “We remain open to partnerships that help advance the government’s objectives for the sector and inspire industry players to give their best, champion excellence and pursue innovation.”
Outlining 2026 priorities, he highlighted the government’s target of 90 per cent electricity access by year-end, Ghana’s $2 billion agreement extending Jubilee and TEN oil field licences to 2040, and the country’s agreement with Nigeria to increase gas supply for power generation.
Discussions on the nuclear energy pathway and nationwide streetlight repairs were also ongoing.
Presenting the 9th Awards Site Visitation Report, Mr Jantuah said the Site Visitation Report provided an independent, expert assessment of operational sites and projects reviewed by the Panel.
“We believe this document can serve as a useful reference point to support policy refinement and strengthen the Ministry’s oversight responsibilities across the sector,” he said.
Ing Teinor reiterated the Awards’ commitment to sector development.
“As we mark our 10th Anniversary, we remain committed to championing operational excellence, innovation and good governance within Ghana’s energy sector. This anniversary is a renewed pledge to support the advancement of the sector in alignment with national priorities,” he said.
The courtesy call officially opened a calendar of anniversary activities, including stakeholder engagements, policy dialogues, and commemorative events leading up to the awards ceremony later in the year.
