Africa-Press – Ghana. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Mr Arthur Osei-Akoto, Ashanti Regional Police Commander, has asked the media to be very cautious in reporting on issues affecting the Ghana police force.
The media should also be circumspect in reporting on issues that could potentially ignite conflicts and destabilize communities.
Addressing a wreath-laying ceremony to commemorate the Police Memorial Day at the police headquarters in Kumasi, he pointed out that the media had a duty to protect the cohesion and unity of the country.
The Police Memorial Day is an annual solemn ceremony to remember and honour the memory of police officers who perished in the line of their duty.
It is also to reassure the bereaved families of the fallen police officers that the police would forever honour the memories of their lost relatives.
DCOP Osei-Akoto, pointed out that the police would continue to play a critical role in ensuring peace, law and order in the country.
He said the sacrifices made by the deceased officers were instrumental in ensuring peace and security of both the communities and the nation as a whole.
DCOP Osei-Akoto, assured the public that the police were thoroughly prepared to ensure safety during the upcoming Christmas festivities and urged the public to conduct themselves in a peaceful and orderly manner during the celebrations.
Dr Frank Amoakohene, Ashanti Regional Minister, laid a wreath on behalf of the government and the people of Ghana, while other officers paid their respects by laying wreaths on behalf of bereaved families.
