GFA Enhances Black Stars Technical Bench for 2026 World Cup

Africa-Press – Ghana. The Ghana Football Association (GFA), has announced five new key additions to the Black Stars’ technical team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.

According to the GFA, the new appointments are designed to improve the team’s competitiveness and create a more robust technical framework as Ghana prepares for the world football mundial in Canada, Mexico and the United States of America.

French coach Alain Ravera has been appointed Assistant Coach. Ravera adds notable international experience, having previously held the same role with both Guinea’s national team and French giants AS Monaco.

He would serve alongside Kim Lars Björkegren, head coach of the Black Queens.

The Swedish trainer recently guided the Queens to a bronze medal at the 2025 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations and secured their qualification for the 2026 edition.

The GFA has also brought in Spanish analyst José Daniel Martínez Alfonso to strengthen scouting, match analysis and preparation.

Martínez Alfonso currently works with Major League Soccer outfit Atlanta FC as an assistant coach and video analyst, bringing modern analytical expertise to the setup.

The medical unit also receives a boost with the return of Carlos Lozano Romero as Team Physiotherapist.

Lozano was part of Ghana’s medical team during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, and his comeback provides continuity and familiarity within the squad.

Rounding off the new technical additions is Dwayne Peasah Paa Kwesi, a British-born Ghanaian appointed as Performance Coach. Having supported the national team on numerous occasions, he will focus on player conditioning, physical optimization and overall performance throughout the World Cup journey.

The GFA said these appointments apply exclusively to the 2026 World Cup campaign and follows long-standing practice of expanding the technical staff whenever the Black Stars qualify for major tournaments.

The newly appointed specialists would join the existing backroom team led by Head Coach Otto Addo, as Ghana steps up preparations for the World Cup.
