Africa-Press – Ghana. The family of the late former Black Stars attacker, Peter Lamptey, has paid a courtesy call on Nii Kojo Ashiefie Papanyira I, the Noyaa Mantse of the Ga State, to brief him on the funeral arrangements and seek his blessings per Ga customs.
Lamptey, who died on October 9, 2025, left an indelible mark at Accra Great Olympics and Hearts of Oak, claiming five Ghana Premier League titles, three FA Cups, and the 1973 league top scorer award.
His incredible stats earned him a place in Ghana’s 1972 Munich Olympic team where he stood shoulder-to-shoulder with the country’s top giants.
Nii Kojo Ashiefie Papanyira I, known in private life as Ben Nunoo Mensah hailed the “goal thief” as a true hero and a great footballer whose dazzling play brought joy and smiles to fans and secured his place in the annals of Ghanaian football.
He recalled his spell with Accra Hearts of Oak, during which he was a dependable pillar of the team across multiple seasons.
He extended his deepest condolences to the delegation and the bereaved family, recalling his close personal relationship with the legend.
The former President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) said he and other senior figures from the football fraternity would each play their part to help organise a successful funeral for the late Peter Lamptey.
Lamptey’s prolific goal-scoring earned him recognition from the Sports Writers Association of Ghana in the season he topped the league charts.
The funeral is scheduled for February 26–27, 2026, in Accra.
