Africa-Press – Ghana. The Minority Caucus in Parliament has criticised the government’s proposed reduction in utility tariffs, saying it’s not enough to ease the financial burden on consumers.
Mr. Collins Adomako-Mensah, Deputy Ranking Member of Parliament’s Energy Committee, urged the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) to review its tariff-setting methodology, citing outdated economic assumptions that led to an estimated overcharge of GH¢1.5 billion in the fourth quarter of 2025.
“It has been three weeks since the Minister’s directive, yet the report has not been published, and the Minister has not addressed the public,” Mr. Adomako-Mensah said on Wednesday in Parliament House.
“Consumers are still watching their prepaid credits being drained,” he stated when he addressed the Parliamentary Press Corps.
Mr. Adomako-Mensah, also the New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for Afigya Kwabre North, called on the Minister for Energy to submit the full investigation report provided by the Electricity Company of Ghana, stating, “Ghanaians deserve to know the scale of the problem and the collective actions taken.”
