Africa-Press – Ghana. President John Dramani Mahama has inspected ongoing construction works on the 80km Jinijini-Sampa road in the Bono Region.
The road, often referred to as part of the 119km Berekum-Sampa road is a critical lifeline in the Bono Region that connects Berekum to the border town of Sampa.
The inspection of the Jinijini-Sampa road forms part of the President’s two-day tour of the Bono Region to inspect ongoing projects, cutting sods for the construction of new ones and commissioning completed ones.
President Mahama in his address noted that previously the Berekum-Sampa road was a butimen road, however, the current one being constructed would be asphalted, which would make it more durable.
He expressed the hope that the project would be completed by the end of the year 2027.
The Jinijini-Sampa road construction is being undertaken by Rango Construction Limited, a leading Ghanaian-owned civil engineering firm.
Okokyeredom Sakyi Ako II, the Paramount Chief of the Drobo Traditional Area and the Vice President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, said the Jinijini-Sampa road plays a pivotal role in the nation’s economy because the road passes through several major cashew-growing towns and villages, thus facilitating the transportation of cashew nuts from farming communities in the Region.
He said the road also serves as a major link between Ghana and the Ivory Coast.
He therefore, appealed to the Government to ensure the timely completion of the Project.
The Paramount Chief also thanked the President for beginning construction works on major roads within the Bono Region.
