PMMC Sweeps Top Honours at 2026 PELT Awards

Africa-Press – Ghana. The Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC), operating under the Ghana Gold Board (Goldbod) model, emerged as the standout performer at the 2026 Public Enterprises League Table (PELT) Awards.

The minerals institution secured three major honours as Ghana’s public institutions continue to demonstrate improvements in governance, financial discipline, and service delivery.

PMMC was named Overall Best Specified Entity, State-Owned Enterprise (SOE) of the Year, and Most Profitable SOE, underscoring its transformation into one of the country’s strongest public enterprises.

The event, organised by the State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA), brought together governing boards, chief executives, policymakers, and stakeholders to recognise excellence across State-Owned Enterprises and Other State Entities.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) also distinguished itself with two major awards; Other State Entity (OSE) of the Year, and Most Financially Sustainable OSE.

The Agency’s recognition highlights improvements in its regulatory operations, revenue management, and institutional efficiency.

Other notable winners were the Ghana Maritime Authority, adjudged Most Innovative OSE, and the Ghana Highway Authority, which received the Most Efficient OSE Award in recognition of advancements in project execution and public infrastructure service delivery.

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) earned the award for Most Compliant OSE, reflecting its adherence to statutory reporting requirements and strong regulatory governance.

TDC Ghana Limited reinforced its reputation for organisational discipline by winning the Most Compliant SOE and the Most Consistent Dividend Paying SOE in terms of frequency.

The Consolidated Bank Ghana (CBG) received the award for Most Innovative SOE, recognising its digital transformation drive and improvements in customer-facing services.

Ghana Reinsurance PLC was honoured as the Most Consistent Dividend Paying SOE in terms of quantum, acknowledging its steady contributions to national revenue growth.

Mr Julius Debrah, the Chief of Staff, reiterated government’s position that the PELT assessment was not merely a ceremonial ranking, but a critical governance instrument designed to strengthen accountability, transparency, and measurable performance across public enterprises.

He emphasised that the reset agenda required SOEs and OSEs to demonstrate strong internal controls, prudent financial management, and strict adherence to SIGA’s oversight obligations.

He reminded public institutions that profitability must translate into value for citizens, stating that dividends and surpluses must be declared transparently and paid to the State.

The Chief of Staff said effective governance extended beyond compliance and financial reporting to include “clean procurement practices, timely submission of operational reports, and decision‐making that prioritised public interest.”

He noted that conflict of interest was a major threat to institutional credibility and urged governing boards and management teams to confront such practices decisively to preserve the public trust.

The League Table served both as a diagnostic tool and a guide for improvement, he said, and that it functioned as a mirror that reflected an institution’s current performance and identified the areas requiring improvement.

He indicated that Ghanaians expected continuous improvements in efficiency, service quality, and value for money, and urged public enterprises to align their operations with these expectations.
