Africa-Press – Ghana. The Wenchi Municipal Assembly in the Bono Region has re-elected Henry Amewowo as its Presiding Member (PM) by popular acclamation.

At a special Assembly meeting held in Wenchi, 37 Assembly Members (AMs) voted “Yes” to confirm the incumbent PM in an election conducted and supervised by the Electoral Commission of Ghana.

However, one member voted “No.”

Addressing the Assembly Members prior to the election, Mr Charles Atta Mensah said the election of a Presiding Member was a constitutional requirement and urged members to conduct themselves appropriately.

He explained that the Assembly required the Presiding Member to preside over meetings and ensure the effective running of the Assembly.

Mrs. Christiana Opoku announced the results of the election.

In his acceptance speech, Mr Amewowo expressed appreciation to the Assembly Members, chiefs, queen mothers, and the people of Wenchi for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to work with all stakeholders to promote the development of the municipality.
