Africa-Press – Ghana. Zimbabwean President Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa on Friday toured the Sweden Ghana Medical Centre (SGMC) in Accra.
President Mnangagwa, who was accompanied by Dr Rashid-Hassan Pelpuo, Ghana’s Minister of Labour, Jobs and Employment, undertook the tour of the facility on day three of his three-day state visit to Ghana at the invitation of his host, President John Dramani Mahama.
The Zimbabwean President described the state-of-the-art facility, which utilised nuclear energy for cancer treatment, as truly impressive.
“It is my vision to see a similar high-tech medical facility established in Zimbabwe, to bolster our healthcare system,” President Mnangagwa said.
Founded in 2007 as a Ghanaian-Swedish joint venture, the Sweden Ghana Medical Centre (SGMC) is a premier cancer treatment facility in Accra, which was officially inaugurated in June 2012.
The facility introduced specialised, private oncology services including radiotherapy and chemotherapy to West Africa.
It was fully acquired by the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) by 2020.
