Zimbabwean President Mnangagwa Pays Tribute to Kwame Nkrumah

Africa-Press – Ghana. President Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa of Zimbabwe has paid tribute to Ghana’s Founding President Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, in Accra.

He laid a wreath at the tomb of President Dr Kwame Nkrumah and observed a minute silence in his honour for his lasting contributions to the African liberation struggle.

The Zimbabwean President was on a three-day state visit to Ghana at the invitation of his host, President John Dramani Mahama.

The Zimbabwean President was accompanied by Dr Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, Ghana’s Minister of Labour, Jobs and Employment, was received at Park by Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie, the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts.

He was conducted around the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park by Dr Collins Rawlings Nunyonameh, the Acting Executive Director of Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park.

President Dr Mnangagwa in his tribute to Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah wrote:

“I feel honored that you have allowed me space to express my personal view about the late President Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

“I remember when we were in primary school in the late 1958-we gathered as students draped in our bedsheets (white in colour) to emulate the former President Dr. Kwame Nkrumah – he was our hero as students.

“I feel most honoured that I have had this opportunity to record my feelings today which I experienced at that time around 1958.

“Long live the memory and history of our beloved President Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.”

President Mnangagwa’s tribute reflects Zimbabwe’s deep respect for Ghana’s rich history as the champion of the African liberation struggle and reaffirms the strong bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two nations.
