Ministerial Vetting: Volta Region to Become Tourism Enclave to Rake-In Revenue for Dev’T

Africa-Press – Ghana. Mr James Gunu, the Minister-designate for Volta Region, has given the assurance that he would work collaboratively with the Minister of Tourism to boost the tourism potential of the Region to rake-in revenue for the country.

The topography of the Region itself was very fascinating, coupled with other tourist sites and would, therefore, work closely with other agencies to explore the tourism potential to spur local economic growth.

Responding to questions when he appeared before the Appointments Committee of Parliament on Thursday, Mr Gunu said he would make frantic efforts to build the capacities of the Assemblies to improve revenue mobilisation efforts.

He mentioned areas like budgeting, planning, implementation and evaluation of projects that required improvement in capacity-building to enhance the internally-generated funds of the Assemblies.

Asked about plans he had put in place to curb perennial sea erosion, Mr Gunu assured that, he would work with other sector ministries and agencies to tackle the tidal waves menace head-on to protect the coastal belt.

On conflict resolution measures, the nominee said he would set up a Conflict Resolution Committee, comprising traditional authorities, MPs, DCEs and other key stakeholders to adjudicate with players embroiled in conflicts to promote peace and harmony in the Region.
