Africa-Press – Ghana. Alhaji Seidu Agongo, a businessman and philanthropist, has gifted a brand new Hyundai Elantra to Black Stars and Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare.
The presentation took place on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at Accra Hearts of Oak Commercial Centre.
The donation was triggered by a viral video showing the national team star commuting in a public transport known as ‘trotro’.
According to Alhaji Agongo, he decided to demonstrate this kind gesture after seeing the viral video and felt national stars deserved better recognition for their hard work.
“When I saw the video, I was moved by his humility. Here is someone representing our nation at the highest level yet remaining so grounded. Such a character deserves recognition,” he said.
The businessman, who has previously supported widows, orphans, and various community projects across Ghana, arranged for the delivery of the brand-new vehicle to the goalkeeper—a gesture that has earned him praise from sports fans nationwide.
Asare, who is currently the number one-shot stopper for Black Stars, expressed his profound gratitude to Alhaji Agongo for his kind gesture and honouring him as a national star.
“This is beyond my wildest dreams. I take the trotro not because I want sympathy but because I believe in living simply. Mr Agongo’s kindness has overwhelmed me, and I promise to honour this gift by continuing to give my best for Ghana,” he said.
The former Accra Great Olympics goalkeeper has had a stellar campaign with Accra Hearts of Oak, which earned him a call up to the national team in the recent 2026 World Cup qualifiers, where he kept two clean sheets.
