GPL: Annor’S ‘I Belong to Jesus’ Goal Celebration Draws GFA Fine

Africa-Press – Ghana. The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has imposed a GHC 500 fine on Nations FC striker Emmanuel Annor for his religious goal celebration.

Annor scored the second goal for his team in a 2-0 victory over Asante Kotoko a few weeks ago, and he celebrated by showing off his vest, which read, “I belong to Jesus.”

Annor received a yellow card on the pitch for removing his jersey, as well as a sanction from the GFA, which has sparked criticism on social media.

According to a ruling by the Disciplinary Committee of the GFA, Annor’s goal celebration was deemed a violation of league regulations that prohibit players from displaying religious or political messages.

“Nations FC player Emmanuel Annor has been fined GHC 500 by the Disciplinary for misconduct during their Ghana Premier League game against Asante Kotoko.

“The player was found guilty of displaying a religious message on his undergarment after removing his shirt in celebration.

“He has also been strongly warned that any further misconduct will result in severe sanctions,” excerpts of the ruling by the Disciplinary Committee of the GFA said.
