Africa-Press – Ghana. The United Kingdom’s Trade Envoy to Ghana, Ms Bell Ribeiro-Addy, is set to embark on a four-day official visit to Accra and Kumasi from May 19 to 22, 2025.

The visit aims to deepen the UK-Ghana economic partnership and explore new avenues for trade and investment.

This marks Ms Ribeiro-Addy’s first official visit to Ghana since her appointment in January 2025 by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

Her appointment is part of the UK government’s wider effort to strengthen international trade through its global network of Trade Envoys covering over 70 countries.

The announcement was made in a press release issued by the British High Commission in Accra.

The release said during her visit, Ms Ribeiro-Addy would engage with key stakeholders in both the public and private sectors.

Her scheduled meetings included interactions with: Dr Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, the Minister of Finance, Ms Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, the Minister of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Dr Clement Abass Apaak, the Deputy Minister of Education, Senior government officials, Traditional leaders, academic institutions, representatives from UK businesses in Ghana, and Officials from the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC).

These engagements would focus on expanding bilateral trade, increasing investment flows, promoting industrial collaboration, and identifying shared economic opportunities, it said.

In Kumasi, the Trade Envoy would tour two major infrastructure projects supported by UK Export Finance (UKEF): the ongoing redevelopment of the Kumasi Airport and the construction of the maternity block at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

Both projects exemplified the UK’s continued commitment to infrastructure development in Ghana’s Ashanti Region.

Ms Ribeiro-Addy would also host a special roundtable discussion with members of the Women’s Parliamentary Caucus.

The release said the event would centre on promoting gender-inclusive economic policies, leadership, and sustainable development.

Expressing her enthusiasm ahead of the visit, Ms Ribeiro-Addy stated that she was honoured to represent the UK in Ghana and looked forward to engaging with Ghanaian partners.

She said the visit was an important step in strengthening the UK’s trade relations and exploring new avenues for collaboration, and she was confident that their discussions would pave the way for a brighter economic future for both countries.

Ms Harriet Thompson, the British High Commissioner to Ghana, also welcomed the upcoming visit saying: “We are thrilled to host Ms Ribeiro-Addy MP in Ghana. Her presence reflects our shared commitment to building stronger international partnerships, promoting global trade, and realising a vision of inclusive prosperity”.

The visit underscores the UK’s growing focus on building strategic economic alliances across Africa and reinforces Ghana’s role as a key trade partner in the region.
