Africa-Press – Ghana. Lorient midfielder Bonke Innocent has received a call-up to the Nigeria national team to replace Wilfred Ndidi ahead of the 2022 World Cup play-off against Ghana.

The Nigeria Football Federation on Sunday confirmed the Leicester City star has been ruled out of the double-header encounter with the Black Stars.

Ndidi suffered an knee injury last Thursday when Leicester played against Stade Rennes in the UEFA Europa Conference League and will be out of several weeks.

Innocent has been invited by Augustine Eguavoen to fill the vacuum left by the key midfielder few days to the crucial play-off tie.

The former Malmö FF player made his Super Eagles debut against Cape Verde in the World Cup qualifications on September 7, 2021.

He has made seven league appearances for Lorient in the French Ligue 1 since joining them in the January transfer from Malmö.

Ghana will host Nigeria in the first leg of the crucial tie on Friday, March 25, 2022 at the Babayara Stadium in Kumasi and the reverse fixture is set for the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja four days later.
