2023 AFCON Qualifiers: Celta Vigo defender Joseph Aidoo ruled out of Madagascar clash

Africa-Press – Ghana. Defender Joseph Aidoo will miss Ghana’s opening Group E game against Madagascar in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The Celta Vigo star picked up an injury during training on Monday and has been ruled out of Wednesday’s game in Cape Coast.

Aidoo twisted his ankle and he is currently receiving treatment. He is expected to recover in time for the second game against the Central African Republic.

The Spain-based defender’s absence will be huge blow for the Black Stars, who are already missing Strasbourg centre-back Alexander Djiku.

Coach Otto Addo will count on Vitoria Guimaraes defender Abdul Mumin Suleman and Clermont’s Foot’s Alidu Seidu as replacements for the injured player.

Joseph Aidoo has been in fine form this season, helping Celta Vigo finish the La Liga season in 11th place.

He was the Player of the Month for January and February and was rewarded a new contract, which will see him stay at the club until 2026.

Aidoo joined Celta Vigo from Belgium giants KRC Genk in 2019.
