Africa-Press – Ghana. Mr. Kofi Iddie Adams, Minister of Sports and Recreation has been widely commended for his role in revitalizing fan engagement at the just ended President’s Cup.
The 40,000-capacity sports stadium was completely full as fans continued to arrive in large numbers hoping to catch a glimpse of the clash between Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak.
The achievement marked the second major football event under his tenure to record maximum attendance, following the full house during Ghana’s 5-0 victory over Chad in March.
In preparation for the Cup, the Member of Parliament for the Buem Constituency constituted a dedicated Fundraising Committee chaired by Dr Tony Aubynn to raise resources through public and private partnerships.
The Minister went ahead to issue partnership proposals and sponsorship letters for corporate organisations to sponsor the event.
His enthusiasm throughout the period clearly reflected his belief that, with strategic marketing, sports can become self-sustaining.
To address early visibility gaps, he initiated a robust media awareness drive, while collaborating with key stakeholders to spark a friendly rivalry on social media.
Mr. Iddie Adams delivered an experience that extended beyond football, bringing onboard some top musicians across the nation.
Since assuming office on 7 February, he has contracted a dedicated taskforce to oversee the maintenance of the Accra Sports Stadium pitch, while implementing critical renovations to ensure compliance with CAF and FIFA requirements.
