The three week-long training, which ended at Gushegu in the Northern Region, was to promote rural economic empowerment, strengthen livelihoods through market access and build the capacity of Community Information Centres (CIC).
Topics treated included introduction to digital devices, the internet and mobile applications, introduction to social media, using social media for business, digital content creation and distribution, digital financial management, using mobile money in business, digital safety and security, entrepreneurship, and gender empowerment.
It was organised by Assistance Hub in partnership with Kofi Annan ICT Centre, UNESCO, University of Ghana Business School, and Hapaspace, a digital innovation hub in Kumasi.
Asana Abdulai, Project Partnership Lead of Assistance Hub, speaking during the training, said it was to harness digital technology and the capacity of CIC to transform rural livelihoods, tackle barriers in relation to market access, connectivity and use of technology, and skills development.
She said it was also to increase confidence amongst young women, improve well-being, resilience and financial advantage through skills development and youth employability.
She said the organisation would roll out other training models to cater for unemployed young mothers to fend for their children.
Humu-Hani Adam, Assistance Hub Team Lead said the training was to expose businesses of the beneficiaries to the rest of the world for increased patronage.
Mr Adam Abdul Hafiz, Gushegu Municipal Chief Executive, urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the skills acquired to improve their operations.
He advised them to be loyal, honest, innovative, and truthful to their customers.
Abdulai Soale, Public Relations Officer of the Paramount Chief of Gushegu, assured the organisers of Gushe-Naa’s support to establish office accommodation in the area.
Participants exhibited some of their business items such as perfumes, pastries, men and women dresses, switch boards, various kinds of local dishes, and drinks amongst others.
