Ablakwa, Cletus Avoke, others crippling MMT – PRO

Some Members of Parliament, including North Tongu MP, have been accused of crippling Metro Mass Transport company, a state-owned transport company.

George Krobea, Public Relations Officer of the company, told  Kwesi Parker-Wilson, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and other MPs including  Zebilla MP, Cletus Avoke, owe the company ¢1.5m.

According to Mr. Krobea, the debt which has been outstanding since 2016, has created a frosty relationship between the company and its partner, Goil, an upstream oil company owned by the state.

“These debts are owed by individual Members of Parliament. And it is actually crippling the company.

“They should also not forget that the business was fueled. And that fuel was bought in 2016 from Goil.  We cannot go and tell Goil to wait, we are in 2019 and moving to 2020,” he lamented.

Giving a background to these debts, Krobea said they were accrued from the hiring of buses for campaigns in the last elections.

He added that several letters to the MPs to honour their financial obligations have fallen on deaf ears.

Ablakwa’s response

However, the North Tongu MP has denied the allegations.

Writing on his Facebook wall, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa said: “to the best of my knowledge, I have redeemed all obligations to the Metro Mass Transit Ltd.”

Explaining further he added, “At my request, soon after the 2016 election, I demanded to know the entire amount owed for transport services rendered to my beloved constituents during the electioneering period and for which I promptly paid in full as far back as 28th June 2017.”

Okudzeto attached evidence of payment with an official receipt which had “number: 0190199 “and signed by “Diana Delali, the Metro Mass Transit Receiving Cashier.”

He alleged that what is happening is a “well-coordinated smear campaign” for which he may take legal action to clear his name.

“I have accordingly instructed my Lawyers to formally write to the Metro Mass Transit Ltd as we consider other legal options available to us,” he posted on facebook.
