Accra-Tema Motorway Emergency Repairs: Motorists diverted to alternative routes

Africa-Press – Ghana. Motorists plying the Accra-Tema motorway through the Lakplakpa River Bridge are directed to use alternative routes – the Fertilizer Road, Tsui Bleoo Road, Spintex Road 1, Teshie Link, Adogon Highway and Burma Camp Roads 1 & 2.

They are also to follow the directional signs, the Ministry of Roads and Highways, through the Ghana Highway Authority, has advised. The diversion is because of the emergency repair works being done on the River Bridge due to the gradual collapse of the steel deck and defects in the remaining reinforced concrete slab, which has affected the steel beams and welds.

A statement from the Ministry copied to the Ghana News Agency, said in 2014, one span of the two span Bridge was replaced with a steel deck and in order to save life and property; it was imperative to close that section of the road now for emergency repairs.

It said the Ghana Highway Authority was, therefore, working day and night to reconstruct the deck, applying modern technology of concrete production to ensure that the road was opened to traffic by Friday, June 17, 2022, at 06:00 hours.

In addition to the ongoing traffic management measures on the motorway aimed at alleviating the inconveniences to the motoring public, the statement said contractors working on the Beach Road had been directed to ensure that the dual carriage sections were opened to traffic.

“The Ministry sincerely apologises for the inconvenience caused to the motoring public,” the statement added.
