Ada East Residents Express Gratitude to Government and Swiss Partners for Mini-Grid Electrification Projects

Africa-Press – Ghana. Residents of Azizakpe, Alorkem, and Aflive in the Ada East District of the Greater Accra Region have extended their heartfelt gratitude to the government of Ghana and the Swiss government for the recent installation and commissioning of three mini-grid electrification projects in their communities.

For years, the residents have struggled without access to reliable electricity, hindering their economic and social development. The lack of electricity has affected various aspects of their lives, including education, healthcare, and economic activities.

The communities have had to rely on expensive and unreliable sources of energy, which has limited their ability to develop.

The mini-grid electrification projects, made possible through the partnership between the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition and the Swiss government, will provide reliable electricity to approximately 3,700 residents in these island communities.

The beneficiaries have expressed their deep appreciation for the initiative, which they believe will transform their lives and boost local economic development.

“We are extremely grateful to the government and the Swiss government for bringing light to our communities,” said some residents in a collective statement.

“For a long time, we have been in darkness, struggling to access basic necessities. These projects in our Island communities would go a long way to support us in diverse ways.”

Madam Fuastina Blemawusi, representative of the District Coordinating Director, echoed the sentiments of the residents, expressing profound gratitude to Mr John Abdulai Jinapor the Minister of Energy and Green Transition and Ms Simone Giger, the Swiss Ambassador to Ghana for their partnership.

She highlighted the project’s benefits, stating that it would enable productive use of energy opportunities in the communities, including water pumping and treatment, small-scale irrigation, operation of provision shops, corn milling, fish processing, dressmaking, hairdre

“The projects would also support electricity access for education, religious activities, enhance reliable healthcare services, foster security and community development,” she added.

Madam Blemawusi, on behalf of the District Assembly, pledged to work closely with the Volta River Authority to ensure the protection and maintenance of the mini-grid systems for their longevity and effectiveness.
