Africa-Press – Ghana. Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, one of the aspiring presidential candidates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Election 2028, has urged African leaders to prioritise and develop the potential of the continent’s growing youth population.
“Posterity will not forgive us if we fail to build the potential of the youth to take the leadership of the continent,” Dr Adutwum, said in a statement issued by his campaign team and copied to the Ghana News Agency.
Dr Adutwum, also a former Minister of Education and Member of Parliament (MP) for the Bosomtwe Constituency in the Ashanti Region, gave the advice when he addressed a forum of African educators in Accra.
He said: “The future of Africa largely rests on the youth and we must therefore invest in them to ascend the leadership positions.”
According to the statement, Dr Adutwum said: “My vision for the youth begins from home.”
He reaffirmed his commitment to empower the youth of the NPP party economically, if he were given the mandate as the Election 2028 flagbearer of the NPP.
“I have a broader vision of the youth of our party because they remain the gatekeepers of the NPP and my presidential ambition”, the statement indicated, the former Minister, and 2028 presidential aspirant, said.
“As a party we must do more to empower and create opportunities for the youth to contribute meaningfully to the progressive growth and development of the nation,” he added.
Dr Adutwum said: “In fact I have prioritized the welfare of the NPP youth and I promise to create the right environment for them to thrive.”.
It highlighted the exceptional contributions of Dr Adutwum, a former Minister of Education and Member of Parliament (MP) towards the smooth implementation of the Free Senior High School (FSHS) programme and advancing the nation’s STEM education.
His contributions to the establishment of the new STEM schools and the upgrade of the TVET institutions in the country remain unparallel,” the statement reaffirmed, adding that, “a number of his achievements are clear indications that Dr Adutwum commits to creating a pathway for our young people to succeed.”
The stressed that, “Education should not only prepare students for jobs, but equip them to create jobs for themselves and to transform their lives and communities.”
