Africa-Press – Ghana. The Minister for the Interior, Henry Quartey, has reassured that this year’s general elections will be peaceful.

He says the government of Ghana cherishes the peace that the people are enjoying hence will do everything to ensure the peace is sustained.

He also reaffirmed the Government’s continuous commitment to retooling the security services to deliver on their mandate and protect the country.

Mr Quartey said these when speaking during a courtesy call on him at the Ministry of the Interior by the British High Commissioner to Ghana, Her Excellency Harriet Thompson.

He emphasized that President Akufo-Addo is a man of integrity and peace, and that the President is determined to leave a legacy that he will be remembered for. To achieve this, the President has directed that necessary measures be put in place to ensure transparent and peaceful elections.

Although elections can sometimes be challenging, Hon. Quartey assured the Ambassador that the elections will go well, and all parties involved will unite as one after the elections and work towards a common goal.

The Minister commended the just-ended 2024 Voters Registration Exercise conducted by the Electoral Commission, which was successful, and said this was an attestation that Ghana’s upcoming general elections will be peaceful.

He disclosed that an elections task force has been put in place to ensure that everything goes smoothly, and the Ministry will soon begin planned public engagements with key stakeholders on the need for peaceful elections.

Hon. Quartey expressed his gratitude to the Ambassador for the visit and noted that the relationship between Ghana and the British Government has deepened over the years and will continue to grow stronger.

Her Excellency Harriet Thompson congratulated the Minister on his new appointment and thanked him for the visit.
