Amiens SC manager explains Nicholas Opoku's early substitution against Annency

Africa-Press – Ghana. Amiens manager, Phillipe Hinschberger, has revealed that defender Nicholas Opoku had to be withdrawn from the game against Annency because of his rustiness.

According to Hinschberger, the Ghana defender is far from his best after returning from injury. Opoku received a yellow card in the 36th minute of the game on Saturday and should have been red carded in the second half for another bad tackle. However, the former Udinese player escaped the referee’s punishment but that prompted the manager to replace him with Owen Gene in the 69th minute.

“Frankly, I’m going to be very, very good faith, it’s way too far for me to see. I was 70 meters from the action. I don’t know if he was lenient but I couldn’t see Nicholas Opoku, who wasn’t very reassuring either, go half an hour without taking a yellow card. So I preferred to anticipate and release it,” he said after the game.

“I don’t know his level. Last year, he had cruciate surgery and I don’t really know his level. I only know him from the videos we were able to make in Amiens when we came to play with Grenoble. It is true that it was a rock. He was arrested not far from a year and it will take time to return to his level, we don’t come back like that,” he added.
