Africa-Press – Ghana. AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine has performed a groundbreaking ceremony to commence rehabilitation work on the ‘ETS’ road, marking the start of a major infrastructure upgrade aimed at easing traffic congestion in the Obuasi Municipality.
The ETS road, which links the Obuasi East Municipality to the central business district of Obuasi, has long been in a state of disrepair, posing challenges to commuters and raising concerns among residents.
The rehabilitation project is part of AngloGold Ashanti’s 10-year Socio-economic Development Plan, which includes upgrading critical road networks within the municipality.
Mr. Samuel Boakye Pobee, Managing Director of AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine, speaking at the ceremony, emphasised the company’s commitment to the development of the town.
He stated that the project reflects Mine’s dedication to improving infrastructure in Obuasi, aligning with its broader role as a responsible corporate citizen.
He also noted that the completed road is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion in the area.
The GH¢7 million project is set to be completed within seven months and will feature durable, high-strength (50 MPa) interlocking concrete pavement blocks, covering the stretch from the Multicredit Office to the Old AGA Commercial Office.
Madam Faustilove Appiah Kanin, the newly confirmed Chief Executive of the Obuasi Municipal Assembly, lauded AngloGold Ashanti for the initiative and pledged her administration’s support to ensure successful execution.
She emphasised the importance of such partnerships in promoting development and creating employment opportunities for the youth.
The ETS road project complements other socio-economic initiatives led by AngloGold Ashanti, such as the construction of a nine-unit classroom block at Sanso, an examination printing center in Obuasi East, and various other projects including a modern health center for Dokyiwa/Binsere communities and a robotics center at Obuasi Senior High Technical School.
