Asante's extra-time stunner seals Premier League promotion for Nsoatreman FC

Africa-Press – Ghana. Charles Asante’s stunning extra-time strike ensured Nsoatreman beat Tamale City FC 2-1 in a Division Zone One Playoff match to seal promotion to the Ghana Premier League.

Both Nsoatreman and Tamale City FC finished the season with the same number of points and even on head-to-head, which prompted a final playoff match at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday.

Samuel Ofori opened the scoring for Nsoatreman early in the second half, but Bismark Asare pulled parity for Tamale City from the spot as the game went into extra time, in which Nsoatreman prevailed.

The first half of the game was very cagey and ugly with some bad tackles, but referee Daniel Laryea maintained discipline on the field of play with numerous yellow cards shown.

There were no clear-cut chances created in the first half as the game was very intense with both sides not leaving any spaces at the back. The second half produced some intriguing action from both sides, and it was Ofori who gave Nsoatreman the lead with a close-range finish in the 57th minute.

Bismarck Asare pulled parity for Tamale City after Referee Daniel Laryea adjudged a penalty incident against Nsoatreman. Tamale City found the momentum after leveling the scores and looked the more likely side to score the next goal, but Nsoatreman held on firm as the game went into extra time.

Asante stepped up with a stunning 25-yard strike to give Nsoatreman the edge in the 99th minute of the first half of extra time as his side held on to win the match. GNA
