Africa-Press – Ghana. Mr Paul Kodwo Kwaw, the Assembly Member for Kikam electoral area in the Ellembelle District, says President John Dramani Mahama scored higher marks in his one-year performance in office.

That, he noted, brought significant economic reliefs to many Ghanaians.

Mr Kwaw said these in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Kikam in the Western Region.

He noted that “within one year, majority of President John Dramani Mahama’s campaign promises have been fulfilled”.

According to him, Legislative Instruments, Regulations and other instruments to kick-start important promises such as the -24-hour Economy, Women’s Bank, Free Tertiary Education for PWDs, vulnerable and others have been enacted into law”.

Mr Kwaw also observed that the current economy was showing signs of positive results, but other commodities did not correspond and many people were complaining.

“In the mining sector, people are complaining bitterly because due to sharp appreciation of the cedi against the dollar”.

The Assembly Men also noted that “a reduction in fuel price index does not correspond with the transportation cost and commuters are also complaining”.

On the way forward, Mr Kodwo Kwaw asked the government to empower consumer protection agency by first upgrading the Agency to an Authority to enforce price control regime.

He said, “most of the commodities are import-driven which should have reflected in the price reduction but we are hoping that with the new Value Added Tax (VAT) regime change it will benefit all especially dealers in cement, spare parts and others”.

He said, “despite the constant fuel reduction, it has not reflected in reduction of transportation cost”.

Reacting to the fact that there has not been any major corruption scandal in the year under review, the Kikam Assembly Member who is also the focal person of the anti-corruption group at the Ellembelle District Assembly, said, “we are waiting for the 2025 Auditor-General’s report”.
