Africa-Press – Ghana. Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the former Vice President has pledged to restructure the nation’s budget statement when he becomes President.
He said he was highly optimistic that the NPP would win the Election 2028 if the delegates give him another chance as the party flagbearer, saying under his government a constituency-based budget would also be implemented.
The implementation of the constituency-based budget would capture and tackle the development needs at the constituency levels.
Alhaji Dr Bawumia gave the pledge when he addressed polling station officers, electoral area coordinators, and branch executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Dormaa Central Constituency at a meeting at Dormaa-Ahenkro, as part of his campaign tour to the Bono Region.
He was accompanied by Mr Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, former Majority Leader, Nana Akomea, former Chief Executive Officer of the State Transport Corporation (STC), Mr Kwame Baffoe, and Bono Regional Chairman of the NPP.
Alhaji Dr Bawumia also addressed a similar meeting at Wamfie in the Dormaa West Constituency, saying that local contractors would mostly be engaged to execute development projects under his government.
He said the present situation where contracts on local projects were awarded in Accra would be a thing of the past, saying constituency town hall meetings for polling station officers, electoral area coordinators and branch executives would also be held annually.
Alhaji Dr Bawumia, who is going round the country to canvas votes of the NPP delegates ahead of the party’s Election 2028 Presidential Primary slated January 31, 2026, said he would also ensure that the NPP members also benefited from his government.
He said when he was the Vice President under the former President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo’s administration he facilitated the implementation of 33 policies, including the mobile money interoperability.
Alhaji Dr Bawumia said the implementation of the money interoperability contributed to the creation of eight million mobile money accounts, and the figure had now jumped to 24 million users.
“That has created job opportunities with the 107,000 momo agents rising to 900,000”, he stated, adding that he spearheaded the implementation of the Zipline project as well as Ghana card and the digital identity.
Alhaji Dr Bawumia urged the NPP to remain formidable, asking the delegates to endorse him as the party flagbearer for the NPP to regain political power in 2028.
The former Vice President urged his following to remain decorous in the campaign, concentrating on issues devoid of indecent language.
