Africa-Press – Ghana. Mr Eric Opong, the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Biakoye District of the Oti Region, has joined the Girl Child Education Officer of the Ghana Education Service, to distribute sanitary pads to pupils across the area.
The initiative, launched by President John Dramani Mahama’s government, aims to ensure that menstruating girls do not miss school due to lack of access to sanitary pads.
In a short address, Mr Opong expressed gratitude to President Mahama for the initiative and advised the pupils to use the pads properly and not share them with anyone.
He reminded them that with this support, they no longer have any excuse to miss school because of menstruation.
The DCE also encouraged the pupils to take their studies seriously, emphasising the government’s commitment to improving education in the district, particularly girl child education.
Every girl from Primary Six to Junior High School (JHS) Two received three packs of sanitary pads, each containing 12 pieces, expected to last for three months.
The distribution exercise was carried out in several schools, including Apesokubi E. P. Basic School, Worawora Anglican Basic School, and Tapa Amanya Schools.
The DCE was accompanied by the Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress at Biakoye and some constituency executives.
The initiative is a welcome relief to the beneficiaries and a testament to the government’s commitment to supporting girl child education in the district.
