Africa-Press – Ghana. The organisers of Afro Nation Ghana have announced the first batch of performing acts, which includes leading Afrobeats artists and some of the biggest names in amapiano. This year’s edition will take place in Accra’s Black Star Square on 29 and 30 December.

Dubbed the ‘World’s Biggest Afrobeats Festival’, this year’s line-up is dressed with several big names in amapiano, including Major League DJz, Uncle Waffles and Kamo Mphela as well as DJ Maphorisa and Kabza De Small’s collaborative project Scorpion Kings.

Other performing acts include Nigerian stars Davido, P-Square, Rema and Adekunle Gold. Ghanaian artist Stonebwoy will make a special guest appearance.

A year after the urban beach festival made its debut in Ghana, the 2020 event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The concert, traditionally held across Europe, The event seeks to unite Africans on the continent and across the diaspora by celebrating black culture, music, dance and food.

“With more of a mission than most regular festivals, the Afro Nation brand is the birth of super-sized global gathering, uniting thousands of music lovers around the world in a bid to further the Afrobeats movement and build a lasting platform for the artists and creatives at its core,” the organisers said.

As part of the festival’s core programming, a number of parties have been planned in Accra from 28 December, starting with the Piano People Welcome Party and ending with a New Year’s Eve special on 31 December.

The last iteration of Afro Nation was held in Portugal, attracting more than 35 000 festivalgoers from 134 different countries. The giant new main stage used at that festival will be transported to Ghana where local production teams will be trained to run it.

In March, the brand partnered with Billboard to launch the Billboard US Afrobeats Songs chart. It is also credited for initiating the weekly Official Afrobeats Chart on BBC Radio 1Xtra, a move fueled by the genre’s growing global acceptance in recent years.
