Africa-Press – Ghana. Black Queens coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren is thrilled with his players’ progression at the ongoing 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) being held in Morocco.
The Black Queens advanced to the semi-finals of the competition after defeating their Algerian opponents 4-2 on penalties after regulation time ended goalless.
According to the Black Queens coach, his side played well against South Africa but did not win, although he was pleased with his players’ improvement in subsequent matches.
“I think it’s always important in a tournament that you are growing as a group. If you’re looking at the best teams in the tournaments, even if you look at the men’s football or World Cup or whatever it is, it’s maybe not the team that wins the first game with 5-0 or whatever it is that’s going to win the whole tournament.
“It’s the team that keeps growing and taking it step by step, and you have players that are showing up that you maybe haven’t seen before.
“I think it’s amazing with this group how they are moving forward the whole time and players that are taking their chances. I’m happy to be a coach for this really great group of talented players,” he said.
The Black Queens would now face host Morocco in the semi-finals of the tournament on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at Olympic Stadium in Rabat.
