Africa-Press – Ghana. Lieutenant General William Agyapong, Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has promoted Private Teye-Tsu Asare Solomon to Lance Corporal for rejecting a bribe from illegal miners.
The promotion was announced at an all-ranks durbar held at Burma Hall in Accra to recognise the soldier’s integrity and professionalism.
Lance Corporal Teye-Tsu, personnel of the GAF’s Department of Public Relations, was deployed on guard duties at Bibiani Gold Mines in the Western Region when he encountered a group of artisanal miners who attempted to bribe him for access to the site.
He refused the offer and handed the individuals over to the authorities.
In addition to his promotion, L/Cpl Teye-Tsu has been nominated for service with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon and will receive further commendations.
The CDS commended his conduct and urged all personnel to uphold their duty to the State.
“As much as acts of indiscipline will attract sanctions, the same way would professional acts, such as those of L/Cpl Teye-Tsu Asare Solomon, attract reward and commendation,” he stated.
