Africa-Press – Ghana. Edinson Cavani’s contract at Manchester United expires at the end of the 2021/22 season and he is expected to leave Old Trafford and return to South America. River Plate are increasingly looking like the club best positioned to sign the striker, with the Argentine giants prepared to offer him a two-year contract.

River Plate are looking for a new forward after sanctioning the sale of Julian Alvarez to Manchester City. Therefore, the city rivals of Cavani’s current club have paved the way for his exit.

Barcelona and Boca Juniors had been linked with a January move for Cavani, but now it looks like he’ll stay at Manchester United and then leave in the summer as a free agent.

Cavani hasn’t played in Argentina before, having moved straight to Europe from his Uruguayan club Danubio. He played for Palermo and then Napoli in Serie A, before joining Paris Saint-Germain and then Manchester United.

In 53 matches with the Red Devils, he has scored 19 goals so far since joining in 2020.
