Christian Council of Ghana Elects A New Chairman

Africa-Press – Ghana. The Christian Council of Ghana (CCG) has elected a new Chairman to steer its affairs for the next one year.

Right Reverend Dr. Lt. Col. Bliss Agbeko (Rtd.), the Moderator of the General Assembly (GA) of the Evangelical Presbyterian (EP) Church Ghana was confirmed at the just ended 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the CCG held today Wednesday May 21, 2025 at the Presbyterian Church of Ghana Head Office, Osu in Accra.

In a statement signed by Rev. Dr Cyril Fayose, General Secretary of the Council, Rev. Dr. Lt. Col. Agbeko (Rtd.) takes over from the Rt. Rev. Dr. Hilliard Dela Dogbe who leaves the position after a successful two-year tenure.

Rt. Rev. Dr. Dogbe will be remembered for championing ethical leadership and national transformation and the establishment of a Reserved Fund to support the Council in trying times.

Born in 1962, the new chairman of the CCG, the Rt. Rev. Dr. Lt. Col. (Rtd.) Bliss Divine Kofi Agbeko, was commissioned a Minister of Religion in 1992 and thus comes to this important ecumenical role with 33 years of pastoral experience.

He earned a Diploma from the Trinity Theological Seminary, Legon, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Religion from the University of Ghana.

He was enlisted in the Ghana Army after serving earlier as a civilian Chaplain.

He was awarded a Master of Divinity degree from the Fort Jackson University, South Carolina in the USA.

He also earned a Doctor of Ministry Degree from the Erskine Theological Seminary, an institution of graduate theological and pastoral education in Due West, South Carolina-USA.

The new CCG Chairman also has to his credit a Diploma in Public Administration from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).

He is also an alumnus of the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College.

Moderator Agbeko is a trained Career Chaplain at the US Army Chaplaincy School, Fort Jackson-Columbia.

He trained as a Clinical Counsellor at the Self Regional Hospital, Greenwood, SC, USA.

He is an old boy of the Kpedze and Kadjebi Asato Secondary Schools,

As a Minister of Religion, Rt. Rev. Dr. Lt. Col. Bliss Agbeko (Rtd.) served in pastoral stations such as Mafi Adidome, Abeka, Adenta, Kisseman and Accra New Town.

He served as the pioneer Synod Moderator of the Meridian Presbytery of the EP Church Ghana before his election as Moderator of GA of the EP Church.

His chaplaincy services in the Armed Forces took him to United Nation’s Peace Keeping missions in Congo, Sierra Leone and Lebanon.

Moderator Agbeko is a board member of the Bremen Mission in Germany and the Chair of the Africa Faith Actors Network on Climate Justice (AFAN-CJ).

He is the author of three books and an evening devotional. He is married with four adult children.

In his acceptance speech, he called for the prayerful support of the CCG family in the performance of his new role in service to God, the Christian fraternity and the national in general.
