Africa-Press – Ghana. The Evangelical Presbyterian (E.P.) Church, Ghana has extended condolences to President John Dramani Mahama, the Parliament of Ghana, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the Ghana Armed Forces, the bereaved families, and the entire nation.

This follows the tragic loss of eight public officials in a military helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

The fatal crash claimed the lives of two cabinet ministers and six other senior public servants who were reportedly on an official assignment when the Ghana Armed Forces aircraft went down.

In a statement signed by Rt. Rev. Dr. Lt. Col. (Rtd.) Bless Divine Agbeko, Moderator of the General Assembly of the E.P. Church, Ghana, and Chairman of the Christian Council of Ghana, the church expressed deep sorrow and solidarity with all affected by the tragedy.

“We share our grief-stricken pain with the Government of Ghana and families of the deceased for the loss of Hon. Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Hon. Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtarla Mohammed, Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Mr. Samuel Aboagye, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah,” the statement read.

It described the late officials as gallant icons whose stewardship, leadership, and sacrifices had left an indelible mark on the nation.

“Their sudden departure has left a deep void in the hearts and spaces of their families, institutions, and all Ghanaians who cherished their service to the country,” it noted.

The Moderator, also the Chairman of the Christian Council of Ghana, said while mourning the untimely loss of these “distinguished gallant icons,” the greatest tribute that could be paid in their memory was to remain steadfast in building “a buoyant, prosperous, just, and peaceful Ghanaian economy.”

The E.P. Church and Christian Council urged the citizenry to uphold the values the deceased stood for – dedication to duty, loyalty to the nation, and a commitment to public service.

The statement prayed for divine comfort for the bereaved families, encouragement for the nation in its moment of grief, and eternal rest for the departed souls.

“May the Lord, in His mercy, comfort all who mourn, strengthen our resolve with the spirit of hope, and grant our departed compatriots eternal rest in His peace,” the statement added.

The tragic incident has drawn an outpouring of sympathy from across the political, religious, and social spectrum.

Flags have been flown at half-mast at government installations, and various groups are planning memorial services in the coming days.

The Ghana Armed Forces has launched an investigation into the cause of the crash, which occurred during routine official duties, even as preparations are underway for a state funeral for the eight officials.

Ghanaians across the country continue to send messages of condolence to the affected families and institutions, with many calling the victims “true patriots” who gave their best in service to the nation.
