Africa-Press – Ghana. The National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), in collaboration with stakeholders, has reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to strengthening Early Childhood Development (ECD) as a foundation for human capital growth.
At the THRIVE National ECD Stakeholders Meeting in Accra, Dr Audrey Smock Amoah, the Director-General, NDPC, stressed that early childhood investment was pivotal to Ghana’s socio-economic transformation.
She noted that 17 percent of children under five were stunted, warning that such statistics signal long-term economic risks if not addressed.
Dr. Amoah noted that NDPC was developing a Human Capital Development Strategy, with the THRIVE Ghana initiative providing evidence-based approaches to improve ECD outcomes.
Mr. Peter Francis Porekuu, Chief Analyst at NDPC, highlighted the importance of accessible and harmonised data for effective planning, urging stronger coordination across sectors to enhance monitoring and decision-making.
The meeting reviewed the THRIVE Ghana Research Strategy and explored partnerships to sustain ECD, aligning with Ghana’s Coordinated Programme of Economic and Social Development Policies (2025–2029) and the Medium-Term National Development Policy Framework (2026–2029).
