Africa-Press – Ghana. Former Ghana number one goalkeeper Fatau Dauda has lauded Black Stars center-backs Alexander Djiku and Daniel Amartey for their outstanding display against Nigeria in the World Cup playoff.

The pair kept the attacking talents of Nigeria led by Victor Osimhen mute, with the Super Eagles only goal coming from the spot.

Amartey and Djiku’s defensive display contributed largely to the Black Stars making a return to the global showpiece.

“My standout players in this World Cup playoffs – our two centre-backs Amartey and Djiku,” Dauda, who played for Ghana on their last World Cup appearance in 2014, told Angel TV.

“They really impressed me with their understanding and confidence.

“Marking out such good attackers and playing from the back even under extreme pressure.”

Thomas Partey’s 10th minute strike in Abuja proved decisive as the Black Stars secured World Cup qualification a week ago.

Ghana have been drawn in Group H alongside European heavyweights Portugal, former champions Uruguay and South Korea.

The Black Stars will tackle Portugal in the opening game of the Group before facing Asian giants South Korea in the next group game.

The African powerhouse will wrap up their group campaign with a clash against the first ever winners of the Mundial in 1930, Uruguay.

Ghana, the four-time African champions will be making their fourth appearance at the Mundial after participating in the 2006, 2010 and 2014 editions.
