Former Thomas Muster coach Ronald Leitgeb dies

Africa-Press – Ghana. Vienna, Feb 16, (dpa/GNA) – Austrian tennis coach Ronald Leitgeb, who led Thomas Muster to the 1995 French Open title and world number one position the following year, died on Wednesday, his family said. He was 62. The family said Leitgeb died unexpectedly in his house in Kitzbühel.

Leitgeb managed and coached Muster in the 1980s and 1990s. Muster won 44 career titles and his 1995 trophy at Roland Garros was the first at the majors by an Austrian. He was also the first from his country to top the ATP rankings. Leitgeb also coached Italian Andrea Gaudenzi, who is now chairman of the men’s ATP Tour, and presided over the Austrian tennis federation 2012-2015.
