Africa-Press – Ghana. Ahead of the GAVI’s High-Level Pledging Summit in Brussels, Belgium, President John Dramani Mahama has held a bilateral meeting with Mr Bill Gates, the Chair of the Gates Foundation.
The President expressed gratitude to Mr Gates and the Gates Foundation for their extensive philanthropic programmes in Ghana and their vital contribution to the Gavi Vaccine Alliance.
President Mahama and Mr Gates discussed Ghana’s health sector interventions; such as progress on the Free Primary Healthcare Programme, the work of the National Vaccine Institute, and the impact of uncapping the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIS).
President Mahama also held discussions with Mr José Manuel Barroso, the Gavi Board Chair.
During their meeting, Mr Barroso expressed gratitude for President Mahama’s consistent support for Gavi’s vaccine replenishment efforts and highlighted the alliance’s anticipation of his advocacy at the pledging session.
